So you know when you are walking in the mall and you ask yourself… am I too old to shop at (insert store here)? This happened to me about a few weeks ago. I walked by Abercrombie & Fitch and had that exact feeling. Not sure why, but at that point I felt like I “aged” out of the store. Over the last couple of years, I would walk by A&F and think “why is the music so loud,” or “why do the sales people stand outside the store in their swim suits or have no shirts on?” Maybe it was because I was a fairly new mommy and just tired or maybe I was feeling old because I was approaching my late 30’s? Who knows! But a few weeks ago, I didn’t just walk by… I stopped and actually went in. I was by myself, so I could try some clothes on in the store! Imagine that… without the kiddies tugging at me and asking me when are we going home. haha But anyhow, I walked in and my eyes lit up. There were so many great dresses, cardigans, and sweaters that were my style. I used to shop at A&F all the time, but transitioned to Banana Republic and J.Crew. I have to say, I was pleasantly surprised and picked up some great pieces, which I will show over the next couple of weeks as I integrate them into my fall looks. So moral of the story… go check out Abercrombie & Fitch if you haven’t lately.
One of my favorite articles of clothing, hands down, are dresses. They are comfortable and can really be worn throughout the entire year (of course depending on colors and fabric;). This dress that I found at A&F is so cute! It has thin straps and lace detail at the top that gives the dress a cami feel. It comes in three colors and can transition easily into fall!
Since cooler temperatures are around the corner, a cardi would be perfect for this dress. The cardigan I am wearing is also from A&F and is so cozy and comfortable. It has deep pockets and an open front… no buttons or zippers on this one, which personally, I prefer. The cardigan has a textured design and the fabric is soft, not scratchy like some wool cardigans. The other great feature is that it curves to your body and it is not very boxy. This is important because I am on the shorter side and boxy cardigans do not complement my body type. Run, don’t walk to pick up this cardigan! Oh, by the way, it comes in five colors 😉
The booties are Vince Camuto, but unfortunately are not available in this exact style. As always, don’t worry! I linked an equally adorable pair.
Thanks for stopping by and please come back soon!
Plaid isn’t just for school girls or lumberjacks anymore… This fall, it’s for everyone! We know that the history of plaid in fashion goes way back (its first use was by Scottish clans) but for us, when we think of plaid fashion we automatically think of Cher from Clueless. Anyone else? How amazing was that yellow plaid skirt and matching jacket? Not to mention the knee high white socks… Well, anyway… Plaid was in almost every designer’s collection this year and is definitely going to be a major fall trend. There are so many plaid options out there right now, that anyone and everyone can incorporate this trend into their fall wardrobe. We grew up during the 90s, so we love the classic grunge look and don’t hesitate to throw on a cool plaid flannel with a pair of ripped jeans or a leather skirt. However, we are headed back to the classroom soon, so we decided to show you two looks that are great for work, but you could easily style these garbs for other occasions!
There are so many elements of this dress that we just love! The cut is classic and sophisticated, but has modern edge due to it’s trendy-asymmetrical hem. It’s body-hugging, but not too tight, so it’s completely appropriate for the office or classroom. The material is stretchy and comfortable. Online it says that it runs small online, but XS fit perfectly. We decided to style the outfit with these amazing booties, although the dress would look great with pumps as well.
This skirt is just perfect! Classic, but yet has that updated school girl look. The fabric is soft, well made and has an a-line fit. We love this because it gives the skirt a bit of a flare-type detail. Also, the color of the skirt allows for top versatility. Sounds technical ha ha. But you know what we mean! For this particular look, we paired it with a crisp white J.Crew button down and ankle strap heels. A great teacher outfit and of course, works for any other profession 😉 This outfit will easily transition to winter as well — throw on a pair of tall boots and cozy sweater and you are off!
Plaid is something that you’ll see more and more of this fall. We’re sure you’ll see us rocking this trend again in the near future 😉
On Lauren and Silvia:
While I am trying to hang onto the last few weeks of summer, I can’t help but continue to think about my fall wardrobe and the first day of school. I know I sound like a student, but teachers get that back to school feeling as well — haha. A staple in my closet is and has always been some sort of cardigan. Cardigans complement any outfit and are a versatile piece for anyone. Classic style is very important to me but I love to add flare whenever I can. Enter the polka dot!
How fun are polka dots? The answer — totally fun! In my opinion the polka dot design has never totally gone “out” of style. This past year designers have been incorporating the design for both fall and winter and it has been all over the runways — making the polka dots trendy again. Interesting that a style made famous by Minnie mouse is a hot trend this fall. Naturally, when I saw this particular cardi set from J.Crew I was instantly in love. Not only does it incorporate polka dot but red too! The best part about this particular cardigan set is the polka dots are a bit sparkly 🙂 Let’s be honest, we all can use a little sparkle in our lives. This is such a “me” outfit, especially for work. It’s classic with a hint of trend. I love this because it is really the type of outfit that is flattering for any body type and can be used for work or play. Versatility is super important to me and if you have read previous posts you will see that it is a common theme for me.
Typical scenario – go to work with this outfit, come home throw on a pair of jeans and I am off to sports practices, doctors appointments or to the grocery store with the kiddies. I am always looking for articles of clothing that will fit my lifestyle and all the running around – lol. Why not look stylish running around town? One of my favorite reasons for writing this blog is show that as you move into a different part of your life… it does not mean your personal style should go out the window. I think for me that happened for a few years after having my first child. I got into a fashion rut as I like to call it… but I feel like over the last couple of years I have found my way back and was inspired to share that with you all. XOXO
To add to this look I wore my FAVORITE pants! I have these pants in all the colors available… They are the J.Crew ponte pant and they are fabulous. The pant has a higher waist and are thicker than a legging and are super comfortable. The quality of the material is top-notch and will last forever. I have had mine for a couple of years and they still look brand new. The pants are a staple in the J.Crew line and I highly recommend them!
These beauties are Lucky Brand and they are the perfect fall bootie. If you are shopping around for a black bootie, stop right here. This shoe is so comfortable I can walk around for hours in them. I am on my feet teaching most of the day therefore, comfort is key! The perforated design and the darker stacked heel make this shoe pretty darn awesome.

A great accessory can make an outfit. It’s like the icing on a cake! A great piece of jewelry, whether it be a collar necklace, dangling earring, or a beautiful pendant, can add a little flair to any outfit. We love styling simple outfits with these statement pieces. You want the jewelry to standout, so keeping the canvas simple works best. Your favorite t-shirt, little black dress or sweater can be transformed by jewelry! We are constantly looking for versatile pieces to add to our outfits. The important thing to keep in mind is that you really do not need many pieces, just the right ones. Some of our favorites include Baublebar, J.Crew, Treasure & Bond, and Shashi. Today, we are rounding up some of our favorite statement pieces that work for any occasion!
This Baublebar necklace is just so delicate and pretty. We are loving the layered look and this will add style and elegance to any outfit. There are also blush colored stones on this necklace which complements the gold chain.
The necklace above demands attention when worn with a simple top. This is one of our favorite pendant necklaces and it is under $20!
Ok… So about this gorgeous statement J.Crew necklace. This piece is a bit more expensive but worth every penny. It is timeless and we have gotten so many compliments when we wear to work or on the weekend. It will dress up your t-shirt or add the wow for your night out outfit! Be warned… if you love it as much as we do I would grab it quick as it did sell out at the beginning of the summer and was recently restocked!!
Baublebar does it again with this layered chain and crystal pendant. We love wearing this with a simple tee or tank. It adds a bit of edge to any casual outfit. It’s currently on sale and under $40!
This simple and chic tassel J.Crew necklace can be worn to literally… everything! This necklace has been apart of J.Crew’s jewelry line for quite some time. They have even added different colored tassel. It is truly one of out favorites!
This necklace was purchased a few years ago, but its popularity has led it to be restocked year after year! It’s design is reminiscent of the artisan styles from the 1960’s and adds just the right amount of drama to any outfit.
These earrings were worn on repeat this summer and will continue to be worn frequently this fall! The bright gold beads are just beautiful and surely make a statement. The perfect size, gorgeous tiered design, and lightweight comfort, definitely make this a go-to accessory for us.
I used to be so bad with color! Not anymore!! These earrings will give any outfit a pop of color. It is a brighter blue (crisp sea to be exact), but the type of earring that can be worn year round and with many different look. I wore them quite often this summer.
Simple in design, but dramatic in length, these earrings are can be worn for any occasion, from a casual brunch in the Hamptons to a black-tie gala in NYC!
Anytime we have worn these earrings, we get so many compliments! They are beautiful, lightweight, and affordable! It’s no wonder they were sold out constantly this summer. Luckily, they have been restocked and are ready for purchase! They are very delicate, so be sure to take good care of them.
During the mid to late 1800’s Queen Victoria of England reigned during a time when women had little power, let alone influence. Women were viewed as inferior and unable to express themselves. Well, times have definitely changed, but fashion influence from the time period has stuck around…well sort of minus the hoops skirts and bonnets 😉 One thing that has stuck around is Victorian style (named after Queen Victoria), which mainly refers to high necklines and lots of detail!
There are three words to describe this fall style – feminine, fancy, and chic! I know we have been talking about fall trends, but you guys, this ultra feminine look can complement any weekday or weekend outfit. This particular Gap shirt has a feminine look plus the detail on this is beautiful 🙂 It has a higher neckline and the Swiss dot embellishment is just so pretty. Oh, and there is a slight opening in the back giving the shirt a more romantic feel. It comes in three colors and is under $50! (unfortunately, the pink color sold out very fast, but it’s still available in white, black and olive green.)
To complete this particular look I paired with my favorite go to J.Crew cargo pant in pine forest. These pants are so comfortable from the strechy fit to the fabric. The pants are available in 4 colors and also have cute zipper on the ankle:) I added the Sam Edelman ankle strap pump to give the outfit a more work style but you can easily add a clutch and strappy heels and head out for the night;)

(photo from October 2016)
Last July, I gave birth to my second child, Bella. My husband and I decided that I should stay home and take a leave of absence from teaching for the year in order to take care of our two children. When I had Brody in 2013, we did the same thing. Being at home with my kids has been a blessing and the most amazing experience, but man is it hard! Now with the new school year fast approaching, I am definitely feeling some anxiety over leaving my kids. It doesn’t help that my son tells me that he doesn’t want me to go back to work! [insert crying emoji] The first time I went back to work after being on leave with Brody, in a strange way I felt ready. We had a tough year financially, so I knew getting back into the classroom was the right thing to do. This time around, we were much better off because my husband took on extra jobs so that we wouldn’t struggle. I love working. Teaching is a part of who I am, but I am feeling tremendous guilt this time around about leaving my babies. They’re my squad. Have any other moms out there experienced this? I recently did some back to school shopping for both myself and the kids, but the anxiety hasn’t dissipated. Well, maybe a little…shopping is somewhat therapeutic, but definitely not enough! Okay, so I’ll quit venting now…onto the clothing and some affordable pieces from H&M!
The first three words that come to mind when describing H&M is simple, chic, and affordable! H&M has always been one of my go-to stores for everything, especially workwear. I love the versatility and simplicity of their designs. Aside from fashion, I also admire H&M’s initiatives. Their drive to make fashion attainable and sustainable is inspiring. Also, in May, they made a huge donation of over $20 million to improve education, clean water, and women’s empowerment around the world. I love their clothes, but I love who they are as a company even more.
I recently purchased this workwear outfit from H&M. The top and bottom combined are under $30!!! Although I am a currently a teacher-off-duty, this outfit can perfectly transition to fall wear. This top is lightweight and the simple pleats at the neckline are a nice touch. (Here’s a similar one on sale…and I love this one too!) It looks great under a blazer or cardigan as well. The best part is, it’s on sale and available online for $12.99!
These pants are one of my new favorites and made from sustainable materials. They are currently on sale for $9.99! They are very lightweight and super comfortable. There are plenty of these in store! Don’t forget to bring in a bag of items to be recycled to H&M. They’ll reward you for being a good citizen of the planet by giving you 15% off your ENTIRE purchase! I put a similar pair from H&M down below for those who like to shop online only. I’m wearing my new favorite pair of pumps here, but these flats would be a great option as well.
I love this top so much that I actually wore it recently for dinner by styling with a pair of jeans, moto (this one is soooo good!), sandals, and my new favorite clutch! This top is simple and classy. I threw on some of my favorite accessories to compliment the sheen of the satin and jazz it up a bit!
One of the HOTTEST trends from NY to Milan this fall is floral – couch floral that is. Yes, you read correctly. This pattern is not just for grandma’s couch anymore – lol! All of the articles out there from the authorities in the fashion industry say this trend will be a staple for the fall. Personally, I love floral! It’s just pretty and reminds me of fairytales – lol. The floral patterns currently online and in stores are absolutely adorable and you can really find an article clothing that matches your personality. I know the Nordstrom sale has ended but this pretty little Billabong number is under $60! It reminds me of the baby doll dresses that were all the rage back in the 90s. Do you guys remember that?
Historically, floral design was very exclusive, made by hand, and originated in Asia. During the 1400’s and 1500’s trading became prevalent and this fabric design became very popular in Europe, particularly with royalty. The style was commonly used in Italy and quickly became a staple all over the country, whether it be in the home or on clothing. The period of Industrialization was really when the fabric design became popular worldwide. There was no longer the need for one person to create the clothing… now machines would assist and make the material or textiles, as they are referred to, more commonplace. Fun fact – the liberty print (commonly used by J.Crew) which is a smaller floral design, was created and made popular by a London based company Liberty London. Sorry – I really do love learning about the origins of fashion! So, at the end of the day, floral design is here to stay and the hottest designers are currently featuring this trend from shirts down to the shoes:)
Getting back to the dress… The material is lightweight, has a slight bell sleeve and has tie detail in the front. A cute detail about the dress is that the sleeve is cinched with elastic so you can easily pull the sleeve up or down depending on the weather. The colors on this dress are fabulous as well – I love the blue and pink color combination 🙂 This outfit calls for subtle accessories – I opted for the J.Crew hinge bracelet to add to my look.
These Sam Edelman shoes are just perfect! The neutral color (available in 6 additional colors) is very versatile and can be paired with jeans, a dress for work or even a night on the town. I love the ankle strap detail and the heel is a perfect height!
This Gap dress is another great floral option. This dress is also lightweight and can easily transition to fall! Just add a cardi or denim jacket and a pair of heels (like the ones I linked above 😉 and you are ready to go. Look at the cute cut out detail in the back!
Oh and about this Gap crossbody bag… It is a great! It is a little roomier but when you are off to work or running errands with the kids it is perfect!
Thanks for reading and stop by again soon 🙂

Every so often, I like to travel outside my comfort zone and try styles and trends that deviate from my norm. Two trends that I’ve been dying to try (but never sure if they’d go well with my body type) are the cinched waist and culottes. After thinking about the history behind these styles, I finally decided to take the plunge!
Culottes and cinched waists have been a part of fashion history for a long time. In France, both styles have a very scandalous history! In college, I took a course on the French Revolution and was fascinated by everything that it entailed! I won’t go into the gory details, but in terms of fashion, culottes were controversial. They were most seen on aristocratic men and represented wealth and oppression. As for women, the corset has been around since the 16th century, but the Austrian princess turned French queen, Marie Antoinette, is always the one that comes to mind when I think of this style. She set the bar in French fashion with her huge, ornate gowns with tiny cinched waists, causing aristocratic women throughout France to follow suit. How did Marie Antoinette eat all that cake in a ridiculously tight corset?
Although these styles have a tumultuous history, they have found their way back on the fashion scene. Culottes are everywhere now and it’s not hard to see why. They are so comfortable! When I put on these high-waisted culottes, I felt amazing! Having given birth to two children, I love anything with a high waist, and the linen material is so light and breezy. They are great for the summer, but will also transitional well for the fall. (These pants are available in-store at H&M. Don’t forget to bring in a bag of used clothing to H&M to be recycled and receive 15% off your entire purchase! I’ve also put similar pairs at the bottom of this post that are available online.)
This cotton waist-cincher blouse just went on sale for $15! It’s also a lot more comfortable than I had originally anticipated! I had it tied pretty tight and it never bothered me at all. I could eat all the cake I want and not feel like I was going to burst! The dolman sleeves with the cinched waist actually made me look slightly curvaceous! I’ll take any curve I can get! It’s another good piece for the summer and fall. (It’s also available in orange.)
With the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale coming to an end on August 6, we felt the need to share one of our favorite sweaters. The asymmetric look is trending hard this fall and we’re so glad we were able to score this sweater during the sale. A good asymmetric top can add a little bit of edge to any outfit! We are actually thinking about rocking this sweater with a pair of black leather pants and stilettos this fall. What do you think? We know it’s still summer, but there’s nothing wrong with planning ahead for the fall! Plus, you can actually wear this sweater now! Yes, now. Here’s two ways of styling this asymmetrical sweater for now and later!
I don’t know about you, but I love wearing a comfy sweater on a chilly summer night. I love sitting on the deck all cozy in a sweater with a glass of wine or on the beach around sunset just watching the waves roll in…preferably with a glass of wine ;). This sweater definitely has all the coziness needed to wrap you up at night while still being stylish!
This sweater also goes perfectly with a pair of jeans and heels. Put them together, add some pretty accessories, and you’re ready for a night out! Imagine you’re a deer…err sorry. Just finished watching My Cousin Vinny. Imagine, a cool fall night where it’s not cold enough for a jacket, but not warm enough to go sleeveless. Sometime in late September or early October… BAM! (Mona Lisa Vito voice here) You rock your new, totally awesome, asymmetrical sweater and you’re ready to go!
We MUST mention that this sweater runs LARGE! If you plan on adding it to your wardrobe, make sure you SIZE DOWN! We are both wearing XXS. It comes in four different colors. It’s on sale until this weekend and will go up to $89 after. Hurry and get it now! 🙂
Some More Asymmetrical Tops:
One shoulder tops are just — FUN! In my profession I do not necessarily wear these types of tops to work, but come the weekends and summertime, it’s on – literally. There are so many different types of one shoulder tops, how do you decide on the right one? Well, when I came across this particular J.Crew top I fell in love. First of all, I love the direction of the stripes on the ruffle and on the bodice. Very flattering. Secondly, the material is a thicker cotton which presents a more structured look. In other words, wear it all day and it won’t wrinkle:) This means the world to a working mommy and gals on the go. Am I right? Sometimes softer materials tend to bunch and not stay in place. Not this top! It is a bit shorter in length so tucking the front will also give any outfit a super cute look.
For this particular outfit I decided to go with a bermuda distressed jean short. I literally have been living in these this summer. I found them at an adorable boutique on Long Island, Ohh la la. They have several locations, but the best part is you are able to purchase online! This particular denim short comes in two color washes as well. To complete the outfit I wore my go to summer shoes to complete the look – Steve Madden Carrson. The heels add a more ‘night’ look… Simply throw on a pair of flats and you are ready to go. I am all about outfits that can easily go from day to night 😉
With this type of top it is important to keep the accessories simple, yet bold at the same time. I chose to go with these fun double hoop J.Crew earrings in blue (crisp sea to be exact) to add a subtle pop of color and a simple gold hinge bracelet to complete this look.

A black leather (or faux leather!) moto has become a staple (and dare I say classic?) in fall street style. The leather motorcycle jacket rose to fashion stardom in the late 1920s, but its origin was more for practical use during World War I. Fun fact: the first motorcycle jacket was designed for none other than…Harley Davidson and cost $5.50! It has become the ultimate bad-ass, versatile jacket ever since. For me, anytime I think of the moto jacket, James Dean from Rebel Without A Cause comes to mind. It doesn’t get anymore bad-ass than that!
The black leather moto has been a part of fashion every single decade since its origin, but really didn’t enter women’s closets until the 1970s as feminists pushed for equality and rocker chicks began well, rocking them to break social norms. Isn’t that just inspiring and super cool? Maybe that’s why whenever we put on our black motos, we immediately feel ready to take on the day!
There are so many cool motos out there right now from real leather to faux leather to suede. The style is completely versatile and practical for the fall. Here we styled one of our favorites with a simple tee that’s under $20, a pair of girlfriend jeans, and our favorite pumps for the fall. This moto was recently restocked after quickly selling out during the Nordtsrom Anniversary Sale. It’s only $64.90 currently! Red is going to be very popular this fall and this bag added a smooth texture and the perfect pop of color to this outfit. (The jeans, pumps, and bag are currently on sale at Nordstrom.) The moto really has such a “cool” factor to it and you can style it in so many different ways! It’s definitely one of the best outwear pieces for the fall.
Here are some great black leather and faux leather motos.
Here are some of our favorite suede moto jackets.
Other items featured in this post.
Adding color to my wardrobe was never easy for me because I tend to gravitate towards black, brown and grey. Doesn’t everybody-lol? The last couple of years, however, I have made an effort to look for clothing that added that extra pop of color. Well, to be perfectly honest Lauren reminds me to add color to my life – haha. The summertime is by far my favorite season and I tend to include the most color into my wardrobe during this time. The outfit I choose to highlight has a very classic summer look which, of course includes my favorite brand J.Crew. As I wrote in my about me page, I stressed that my fashion choices will always be truly representative of me. This outfit is such a ‘me’ outfit as my friends and family would say. Jeans, button down, heels, clutch and a blazer – what else do I need?
So how about these white distressed jeans? I found these beauties at Old Navy and they are absolutely perfect. Old Navy has several types of jean options and there is a style for everyone. I really like these in particular because the jean is lightweight but yet the fabric is thick enough so there is no see through issues. Ladies – you know what I’m talking about 😉 They are mid rise, have a raw hem and are super comfortable. I paired the jeans with this button down that I have had forever. EVERYONE should have a chambray shirt in their closet! I have worn this J.Crew chambray button down with skirts, pants and leggings. You can achieve so many fabulous looks with this button down. Looking towards fall, denim is all the rage and this chambray shirt will not disappoint. Now, for the pop of color… I am completely obsessed with red this year! Such a great color and it adds, no matter which article of clothing, an exclamation point to your outfit. For this look I included the Rebecca Minkoff envelope bag. I know, I have included this bag in several posts. I can’t help it, it’s awesome! Keep scrolling to read more…
Now let’s chat about this blazer. Give me liberty or give me… just the blazer! (Sorry, American history reference lol) The J.Crew liberty print is a fabulous floral pattern (also a trend heading into fall) that J.Crew has incorporated into shoes, bathing suits, dresses, shorts…. basically everything. Love at first site! A good blazer can be worn to work, hanging out with friends or with shorts for quick errands around town during those chillier summer days or nights (we have had some days at 68 degrees here in NY). I think the print is very fun and lively and adds color to any outfit. When I put it on, it makes me smile. FYI – Low inventory of the blazer at J.Crew however, it is in stock at Nordstrom — yes, Nordstrom carries some J.Crew pieces 😉
