How to Wear Blush & Black

I have always loved wearing black.  Although many believe that red is the “power” color, I disagree.  Black is effortlessly chic and flattering.  When all else fails, you can always go for something black.  It looks good on everyone!  Shouldn’t black be considered the “power” color?  Hmmm…

Anyhow, I remember reading something on WhoWhatWear a few months ago about black being a youthful color and that as you age, it’s best to not wear so much of it.  According to the article, black can actually accentuate your more mature skin and make those dark circles appear…darker.  Yikes!  I’m 35 now and though I know I am NOT old, I am older.  My body has changed.  My skin has changed.  I have changed, however my wardrobe has not!  The majority of my wardrobe is black!  Now I know I could never give up on black, but the article did get me thinking about different ways I could incorporate other colors into my wardrobe alongside my go-to color.  Enter…blush pink, or should I say “ballet slipper” pink.

The Pantone Color Institute identified the sweet, soft pink color “ballet slipper” as one of fall’s most popular color trends.  What used to be a go-to color for warmer seasons is now everywhere this fall!  Since having my daughter, I’ve definitely gravitated more toward pink.  I never considered myself a “pink” person, but always loved how it looked on other people.  Recently when shopping, my eyes immediately get drawn to all things pink, well “ballet slipper” pink.  I recently picked up two garments in this color, which I absolutely love!  Both can be worn for work or out and about on the weekends.  Wanting to stay true to who I am, I decided to pair my new purchases with nothing other than…black.

I love this pleated skirt!  It’s so soft, flowy, and feminine!  I would definitely wear this skirt to work, but decided to style it here for a date night/night out.  I paired it with my favorite black lace camisole and the best faux-leather moto ever to add a bit of contrast.  Soft, yet edgy.  What do you think?

This top has the same characteristics as the pleated skirt.  It’s soft and feminine, but the little cut outs give it a little trendy edge.  Only a tiny bit of skin peeks through, so it’s something you can definitely wear to work!  I love how the blouse has a tuck-in-front look without even having to tuck it in at all!  It’s longer in the back too, which is always a plus.  I styled this with the best work pants I have ever purchased!  Seriously!  These pants are worth every penny!  J.Crew is one of my favorite stores for workwear and they hit it out of the park with this style.  They are of great quality and great design.  They lift and tuck and flatter in all the right places.  After having my second child, I got what some refer to as “mom butt.”  Ya know, a wider, flatter backside.  No matter how many squats I do, gravity keeps working against me.  Well, not with these pants!  I was amazed by the back seam.  You MUST try these pants!

I love checking out the Pantone Color Institute’s analysis of NYFW!  Their predictions for this fall have been on point.  If you’re interested in seeing the fashion color trends for Spring 2018, check out the Pantone Color Institute’s most recent analysis by clicking here.
