The Blazer

When I was a little girl I would always hear my mom, grandmother and great-grandmother remind to, “Take a jacket… it’s cold outside!”  Well, this would happen during any season whether it was 90 or 20 degrees outside.  I have to say, they were totally right!  Whether going out to a restaurant or even the grocery store, it can get cold in there sometimes.  Especially in the frozen food section; I am literally shivering as I am shopping.  I am thankful that they drilled that into my head.  I am always warm wherever I go.  As I am getting older I find myself doing the same thing to my kids- lol.  My daughter (she’s nine) never leaves home without some sort of jacket or sweatshirt.  I have said it so many times that, if she forgets it, she tells my husband, “Wait, I have to get a jacket because mommy said it might be cold tonight!”  I taught her well.

When I go to work, out for a date night or run errands there are three articles of clothing that are my favorite options for keeping warm.  The first is the denim jacket – need I say more about this option?  The second would be some sort of scarf or shawl, and the third would be a blazer.  Let’s pause and talk about the blazer more.  A blazer can really do wonders for any outfit.  Going out for dinner and want to sharpen your jeans?  Throw on a blazer.  Going to work, but not in the mood to wear a suit?  No problem…add a blazer to your dress or skirt and you are golden.  There are so many great material options too, so the outfit possibilities are endless.  Today I want to share two of my favorites.

First up, workwear look.  I snatched up this blazer during the Nordstrom anniversary sale over the summer and I am so glad I did.  It is a knit material and looks great over a dress or jeans.  NOTE:  This exact one is no longer available, but I linked an equally super cute blazer from Caslon🙂  I paired with this leith dress and it is by far one of the most flattering dresses I own.  It comes in multiple colors and there is a  long sleeves version for fall/winter.  YAY!  To complete the look. I added a Baublebar statement necklace, a clutch and Steve Madden sandals.

The next look is more casual but, wait for it, look at this velvet blazer.  You guys…  I have had this J.Crew blazer for years and I wear it as soon as it gets cold enough.  (It was about 80 degrees when I shot this jacket though – haha) So, you can imagine how excited I was when velvet was all over the runways for fall!  J.Crew has had this blazer a part of their fall/winter line for many style seasons.  It is a more tailored fit and you have the option to close or leave open.  I usually opt for leaving it open because it is more form fitting.  In my opinion, whether velvet is the ‘in’ material or not, it is a great staple to have a part of your wardrobe.  This particular blazer is a little more expensive but worth every penny…  trust me on this one.

J.Crew has tweaked the blazer over the years, but the fit is basically the same.  This J.Crew blazer is currently not available in navy but it comes in several colors which are equally as fabulous, to complete your fall/winter wardrobe. 😉  I paired with a Gap top, dark color Hudson skinny jeans and, of course, Sam Edelman pumps.  (Necklace is Baublebar)

Hope you enjoyed reading how I styled the blazer look.  Thanks for reading and please stop by again!  xoxo
