Back when we first started our blog, one of the first trends we featured was plaid. People tend to think of plaid as a more casual pattern. However, it’s a pretty versatile pattern that can be worn for any occasion. Last time we focused on wearing plaid for work, so this time we wanted to show you simple ways of incorporating plaid for a night out. When Silvia and I were discussing this post and what would we would shoot, our clothing items of choice truly reflected our fashion personalities. Sil tends to be more classic and style, but dabbles in trends here and there, while I am the opposite. I love playing with trends and adding a little edge to my outfits, but always stick to some classic pieces when curating my closet. Today we are featuring two versatile red and black plaid pieces that can be worn day to night. One, of course, is a more classic piece while the other is a bit more trendy.
The first way to incorporate this popular pattern is through simple accessorizing. Enter the fall staple…the scarf! We love transforming wardrobe basics with patterned scarves. This scarf has the classic and coveted Buffalo pattern. Worn with another fall staple, a sweater dress, it’s the perfect accessory for date night or for grabbing drinks with friends. (The sweater dress linked here is under $20!!!) It also takes this simple sweater dress outfit and transforms it into perfect holiday attire! Although plaid is a classic pattern, designers are constantly creating new ways for it to be incorporated into your wardrobe. The plaid pattern now goes well beyond the basic button down or scarf. One thing that we are seeing a lot of recently are plaid coats! The one shown here integrates another fall trend…the bell sleeve. By adding this simple detail, a classic coat is now ultra feminine and on trend. Here we have styled this coat two different ways to show you its versatility. Once again, however, we have taken a basic black outfit and jazzed it up with a beautiful plaid coat.
