Home Office: Modern, Industrial, and a Little Bit of Glam

When we bought our new home, we were so excited that we would finally have an office!  Before having kids, Mark and I had an office, which basically was a storage room.  There was no style.  All it consisted of was an old-school computer desk and piles of junk!  When we had our daughter Bella, we cleaned it out and turned it into her nursery.  Now that we have a bigger home with more space, we (and by ‘we’, I mean ‘I’) get to design our dream office!  My husband is not one for decorating, so for the most part, he is fine with letting me take the lead when it comes to furnishing and design.  I struggled with trying to figure out what style I wanted for our office… Modern?  Contemporary?  Mid-Century? Farmhouse?  Glam?  Searching on Pinterest for inspiration, I came across so many beautiful offices, but they were all so different.  Over time, I’ve found that I gravitate more toward a modern/industrial look, which is far from my norm.  I found myself looking more at West Elm and Ikea than my usual Pottery Barn.  In the end, I decided to take the plunge, deviate from my norm, and try something new!  The rest of our home will be probably go more of the modern farmhouse style, but I’m excited to have this be a unique space.

Here is our inspo for the home office.  Some pieces we have purchased already, such as the desk, desk chair, rug, light fixture, and dresser.

This drink table is adorable, but I couldn’t add it to the lookbook above.  Our office isn’t that large, so this is perfect to go next to the chair.  I saw it in person at the West Outlet and it was adorable.

This artificial plant caught my eye as well.  The office could definitely use some greenery, even if it’s artificial!

This bookshelf matches the desk nicely.  It might be a little big for the space, but I absolutely love it.

I am still on the hunt for some nice artwork to put above the dresser.  I’m thinking abstract art might be the way to go.  West Elm has some nice choices as does Minted.  I like the one I’ve included in the carousel above, but I still not 100% sold.  I would do either black or gold frames if I decide to go with it.  I might check out my local Home Sense to see what they have in store.

Thanks for stopping by!  I can’t wait to share before and after photos with you!
