More about Silvia

My world basically revolves around family, food, fashion and of course my career, which is teaching!  I am constantly trying to balance family life and my professional life.

7U9C9308I am a very passionate person and put all my energy towards the people who have helped to shape who I am as a mother, wife, and teacher.  My family is my world and I would really be lost without them.  They are my support group and my biggest cheerleaders, even if at times our thought processes are different.

My love for fashion blossomed fairly early on and was inspired by my Nonna.  She worked on 7th Avenue in NYC and I used to go to work with her as much as I could during school breaks.  My favorite memory was when the designers made a couture dress for my Barbie doll, yep couture!  It was red and gold velvet, which I helped them make!  It was a totally awesome experience and basically where my love for fashion began.

Besides the birth of my two munchkins, my wedding was one of the best moments of my life.  I married a man that I had known since childhood.  We have known each other for 24 years and been married for 13!  Of course, I have to tell you about the dress…  Well, I was extremely lucky that my Nonna was there to guide me through this process.  I found a dress that I fell in love with, but Nonna already asked one of her designer friends to make it for me as a surprise!  I got to choose the fabric, style, details etc…  It was truly amazing to watch my dress go from a concept to reality and I even got to make the first cut of the fabric.  As I am typing this, I am tearing up — very emotional!

I would not call myself a fashion expert, but I LOVE the classics!  In high school, I worked at The Gap.  People generally work in retail for one of two reasons:  for the discounted clothes OR to help people put outfits together that they will love – well can you guess which one I was?  Styling customers and eventually becoming the visual manager for the store was a lot of fun.  I really enjoyed my time at The Gap and learned how the “basics” can really be staples in your wardrobe.  Classic items can be dressed up or easily dressed down for a casual look.  In terms of my style, I am very true to me.  I love the pieces that are timeless in terms of style. Rarely do I leave the house without my denim jacket or a statement necklace for my outfit.  Fashion makes me happy and just simply makes me feel good!

So, how did I get here?  Well, when I first started teaching I met Lauren and soon thereafter we became classroom mates — by choice!  We became very good friends and pretty much do everything together in and around school, from co-advising clubs, to hosting fundraisers, and planning lessons together.  About a year ago when Lauren was pregnant with her second child, I mentioned that we should start a fashion blog and then laughed about it!  Well, when Lauren was on maternity leave, we were talking one day and she said, let’s do this!!!  So here we are:)

Although my style is classic at heart, I love pops of trends.  However, I will not buy something just because it’s “in.”  Make sense?  Anything I post will truly represent my personal style and are items that I would wear to work or on the weekends.  Fads will fade, but classics will live on forever.  Just like the continual strive to balance my personal and professional life, I try to find balance between my classic style and current trends.
